Women’s Champions League final, Mapei Stadium – Wolfsburg 1 (Popp 88) Lyon (Ada Hegerberg 12) – Lyon win 4-3 on penalties
Lyon clinched the Women’s Champions League title after a dramatic penalty shootout against Wolfsburg, inflicting revenge for their 2013 final defeat.
The French side, who went ahead through Ada Hegerberg’s early tap-in, were deflated when Alexandra Popp headed home an 88th-minute equaliser for Wolfsburg.
But, after extra time had failed to produce a winner, Lyon held their nerve from the spot – reversing an early deficit to claim the trophy.
It was a doubly sweet victory for Lyon following their 1-0 defeat to the same opponents in the final three years ago.
