Hodgson: Vardy will be pleased to be getting a game

England Manager Roy Hodgson has responded to questions about the formation of his team's attacking players after his team's tepid 2-1 victory over Turkey in an international friendly on Sunday.
It was Jamie Vardy who scored the winning goal for England after a second-half change to the team's formation where Hodgson switched to two players - Vardy and the Premier League Golden Boot winner, Harry Kane, up front - instead of three.
Speaking after the match, Hodgson rebuffed claims that the system had complimented Vardy's style better and reiterated that Harry Kane was the "focal point as a centre-forward," adding: "because he is that type of centre-forward.
"It’s good to know that we can switch from system to system it’s good to know that Jamie is capable of playing both systems," he argued, adding that Vardy would be grateful to play for England in any formation.
"The fact is with the enormous amount of competition we have up front at the moment I think that Jamie’s got to be quite pleased that he’s getting a game that he’s being selected, that he’s scoring goals.
"If he casts his mind back to Fleetwood Town, I think he’ll be pinching himself and he won’t be too concerned if he’s getting a game as a left-forward or a centre forward."
Hodgson also reflected on a disappointing defensive performance by his side, adding: "The next three weeks will be vital for us to make sure we make life easier for ourselves defensively."
