Serena Williams enjoyed a 6-2 6-0 win over a clearly injured Magdaléna Rybáriková before a smallish crowd on Philippe Chatrier to ease herself into the French Open second round.
The Slovakian world number 77 was always unlikely to trouble the number one seed and tournament favourite, but an injury that severely limited her movement during a match that ran for only 43 minutes turned into a contest that barely could be passed off as a training session such was the poverty on show from Rybáriková.
Of course, that was not the fault of Williams, who is aiming to equal Steffi Graf's Open record of 22 Grand Slam titles in Paris, a haul that would leave her only two behind Margaret Court's compilation of 24.
She is playing against history as much her as her opponents this week having lost in the last four at the US Open and the final of the Australian Open in her last two outings at Grand Slams.
Williams, 34, is bidding for a fourth title at Roland Garros to go with her previous successes in 2002, 2013 and 2015.
She will face Kristyna Pliskova or Teliana Pereira in the last 64.
