It isn’t how John Terry would have envisaged bringing the curtain down on a Chelsea career which has seen him lift countless trophies and be adored by his supporters.

Perhaps he imagined walking out on the final day of the season at Stamford Bridge with that familiar armband on his arm, a guard of honour either side of him and the cheers of Chelsea fans from all corners of the stadium in his ears.
Instead, it ended with a stupid lunge into the back of Wahbi Khazri, five minutes into added time of a defeat to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
Terry would only have been banned for one match as he was awarded a second yellow card for the challenge, but a sending off against West Brom on August 23 means an extra game is added on, so Terry will miss the midweek game against Liverpool and the final home game against Leicester.
Terry has said that Chelsea have no intention of giving him a new contract and unless incoming manager Antonio Conte intervenes, this is the last we will have seen of Terry in a Chelsea shirt.
As might be expected, there was a very empathetic reaction on Twitter.

Terry & Gerrard both ending their careers in hilarious circumstances is a tiny bit of consolation for the dross at United since Fergie left.— Busby MUFC (@BusbyMUFC) May 7, 2016
That second yellow card should mean that John Terry never plays another competitive game for Chelsea.

And of course, there were a few mentions of his full-kit antics at the Champions League final in 2012.
